Bighorn forest officials consider camping limits

(AP) – Bighorn National Forest Supervisor Bill Bass says forest managers are making it a priority to address the impacts that come from the enormous popularity of dispersed camping in the forest. Bass district rangers and members of the Bighorn National Forest steering committee met Tuesday to discuss proposed changes to length-of-stay camping provisions in the forest. The new provisions would affect both developed campgrounds and dispersed camping. Recreation and Lands staff officer Dave McKee says about 70 public comments on the proposal have been received so far. He says the length-of-stay limits are intended to improve consistency at all the developed campsites and to increase the availability of dispersed sites. Under the plan all campgrounds would have a 16-day stay limit between June 1 and Sept.

The Planning Commission should make sure that the trial is not lost in the county’s bureaucratic bog where trials and conditions seem to get lost until someone complains.
