Hundreds camp out for jobs for Marlins ballpark
MiamiHerald.com
comp –> MIAMI — Hundreds of construction workers looking for a job camped out at the site of the Florida Marlins’ future ballpark to be the first in line to submit their application. The applications weren’t supposed to be given out until Wednesday but so many people showed up that the construction company had to start the process Tuesday night. Some started camping out as early as Monday afternoon. The $515 million retractable-roof ballpark is expected to open for the 2012 season in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood on the site of the demolished range Bowl. Construction on the site began last week and a formal groundbreaking is scheduled for July 18. The Hunt-Moss construction team for the project said more than 1300 people had signed up Tuesday night.

Wilson wins at The Glen
The Associated Press
It was Wilson’s second IndyCar win. His first came at Detroit on Labor Day weekend last year making him the only driver to break through against the Penske and Ganassi juggernaut in that span. Wilson started on the front row of the Camping World Grand Prix alongside Briscoe and had the strongest car from the outset. He attempted to pass Briscoe in the sweeping high-speed esses on the second lap and failed. Briscoe was warned for blocking and Wilson slipped past him on the next lap in the same place and went on to lead nearly the entire race. After the final full sequence of pit stops was completed with 15 laps remaining Wilson regained the lead by 2 seconds over Briscoe. Hideki Mutoh brought out the fourth caution of the race with seven laps remaining to give Briscoe one final chance but he was no match for Wilson and his sticky red tires losing by nearly 5 seconds.

The Kalamazoo nonprofit organization devoted to keyboard music and known for its world-class festivals hauled 42 pianos out to the camp for a week of intense piano study mixed with traditional camp fun. When not rehearsing or studying music the musicians swim canoe and mingle with other children attending different camps at Sherman Lake. The camp hosts more than 3000 campers a summer said Lorrie Syverson the camp’s director of camping education and retreat services. Numbers are slightly down this year a fact Syverson attributes to the sluggish economy.

Tips for leaving only footprints on your next camping trip
National Post
There were dark clouds as far as the eye could see and the kids were entertaining themselves in the back seat by counting the seconds between the flashes of lightning and the rumbling of thunder. We were on a car ferry crossing Lake Champlain from New York state to Vermont our van crammed with sleeping bags pillows stickers marshmallows and a tricycle – all ready for our first camping trip of the summer while Mother Nature put on a light and water show for us. Luckily the forecasters were wrong and what was supposed to be a rain-soaked weekend turned out to be sunny and warm giving us a chance to try to camp in an environmentally friendly way. It started with requesting adjoining sites with the other family we were camping with.
