Plague found in squirrels at San Diego County camp site

While plague is not uncommon among the squirrels there this year's discovery is earlier than most years. Vector control officials annually take blood samples from squirrels at the Doane Valley Campground and other spots on the mountain. Plague is a bacterial disease in wild rodents that can be transmitted to humans through the bite of infected fleas. Visitors to Palomar Mountain are advised to avoid squirrels and chipmunks and stay clear of animal burrows which can be hot spots for fleas.

June 7-12 in Inglis. pen to boys and girls ages 10 to 15 who live in Escambia County. The summer camp is designed to provide campers with a positive camping experience while teaching them the proper way to share and get along within a group setting. Campers will work closely with law enforcement volunteers from various agencies including the ECS to learn how to positively interact with law enforcement officials. Camp activities include canoeing archery challenge and rope courses as well as several law enforcement demonstrations. The only cost is to obtain a current physical. Space is limited to 12 boys and 12 girls from the Escambia County area.

California activist Cindy Sheehan started protests there in 2005 after her son Casey was killed in the Iraq war. Activists challenged county ordinances enacted after Crawford-area residents complained about thousands of protesters camping and parking in ditches along the two-lane road. Myers and Hardy were convicted in December 2006 and each was fined $150. Myers a retired klahoma attorney and Hardy an Austin psychiatrist faced maximum penalties of 180 days in jail and $2000 fines. Their attorney David Broiles of Fort Worth pursued the appeal saying he was fighting for the First Amendment not the $150. The 10th Court of Appeals had ruled ?that the evidence was legally insufficient to show that the tent in the ditch was an immediate or potential obstruction of the street.
