Campsites will be upgraded from 30 to 50 amps of electricity include some full hookups with water and sewage and increase in size. Although the total number of sites will drop from 144 to 100 Carr believes people will be more satisfied with the setup. “If you were ever out here when we had 144 units here you would think wow why does anyone want to camp that close to somebody” he said. “Now I think people will be much more pleased with the sites. “Work on the campgrounds is slightly behind schedule but it’s expected to be finalized by the end of fall. “We’re likely going to be closed for the camping season” said Carr. “By next season we will be able to hit the ground running.

Why not add it to your summer list of places to camp? This park is in the top of my list of favorites. There are plenty of things to do people to see and places to go. The State Park is secluded enough from the “main drag” that you feel miles away from the “hubbub” yet close enough if you want to venture out to enjoy the many activities that the Lake has to offer.

However VanDonsler also said many of his customers have called and expressed interest in staying in a camper that is already set up. If a local person is willing to let one of VanDonsler’s tenants use his or her camper there is a chance to make $100 a night. There are actually fewer camp sites currently available in the area. John Holt with the Corps of Engineers at Lake Red Rock said the Corps is not taking any reservations at Howell Station. The main priority for the Corps right now is to get the camp site ready following last summer’s flooding. Holt hopes to have the campground operational by Memorial Day. Right now the Corps is spending money received for flood recovery.
