Winter adventures into the Adirondack or Catskill backcountry can be just as wonderful during the winter as it is in the summer. All you need is the right equipment and the proper preparation. I could tell you the best thing is that you’d have the entire mountains to yourself but I would be wrong. No you aren’t going to find all the lean-tos full or 40 other hikers on the summits of every high peak but you’ll certainly have company on many of your trips.

If it is just the boys heading out then certainly a place like Lake Kissimmee State Park is the ticket because dad can show the boys how to effectively build those campfires with flint and steel. f course that might beg the question of how many of us out there can still light fires with flint. Being that our Boy Scout population is still going strong I suppose that’s a good number eh?Now if I am going to take mom on the camping trip I’ll be sure to take our family unit to a private campground simply because it will make the trip easier and more pleasant for mom. I certainly don’t see the need to impose more work on mom when we are supposedly going out to enjoy mother nature and get some relaxation away from “civilization. “Because that’s the rub the more we “rough it” out in nature invariably that means a higher workload on mom. So I just avoid it keeping the peace for another day I reckon. So campgrounds like Camp Mack are really suited to families that want to be within reach of nature’s best without forsaking amenities that make the experience enjoyable for mom.

Some families have had to cancel their annual out of townholiday choosing local Auckland beaches instead. However some families think that camping is one of the cheaperways of spending their holiday. “We try and budget for things like this and I reckon spendingtime in a camping ground is one of your cheaper ways of getting by- and it’s fun” says one camper. The cooler temperatures that we had pre-Christmas are gone andover the next few days much of the country will have fine andsettled weather bringing an influx of visitors to campinggrounds. The din of conversation filled the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Brooksville. As his kids tucked into their mashed potatoes and gravy Hoffmann 39 shared the story that brought him to Jericho Road Ministries’ annual free lunch. At the beginning of November the Hoffmanns were camping on Silver Lake in the Withlacoochee State Forest. Everyone was comfortable in the big eight-person tent. That weekend they were evicted from their home. Hoffmann lost his job installing communications wiring a few days later. Suddenly camping was no longer a weekend jaunt but a way of life.
