Towns might be able to decide camping after all
Lakeland Times WI
At a zoning committee public hearing Wednesday supervisors chose not to approve revisions to the county’s zoning code that would have effectively prohibited camping in single-family residential zoning districts countywide but instead ordered staff back to the drawing board. Specifically on a motion by supervisor Ted Cushing the committee directed staff to work with corporation counsel Brian Desmond to fashion language to allow towns to “control their own destiny. “That would most likely mean in practical terms the establishment of separate single-family zoning districts. Towns would then have the option of choosing a more restrictive designation where camping would not be allowed except under certain short-term conditions and one in which the practice would be permitted unless it created a nuisance as is the case in all single-family districts today.
