Federal challenge to Portland homeless camping ban set for today

Supervisors studying Camp Wapello’s plight

Both attended the Mid-Iowa Council meeting earlier this month at Strother Lodge and listened to Scout Executive Ely Brewer and Mike Brown the camping director tell a crowd of passionate Scout leaders and citizens that Camp Wapello will no longer be used as a summer camp for Iowa Boy Scouts. Both Brewer and Brown said the Camp Wapello program continues to lose money and the Mid-Iowa Council doesn’t want to support it. The council wants summer camp to be at Camp Mitigwa in Boone County in central Iowa. Fundraising ideasSiegel said Wednesday he has been checking into ways to pay for the camp’s debt and Scouting’s use of the camp in summer. “I talked to Brewer yesterday with the thought that maybe we could jump-start [the camp] with a fundraising campaign” he said.
