If you are keen to see thehillsides of wildflowers in full bloom the best month is Novemberbut the flies will be here too. 5 kilometre walk into camp is greeted by hot drinksand hors d’ouvres. Our tents are pitched spread out along theplateau and sleeping bags rolled out. Our sleeping mats arecleverly made into chairs. The kitchen tent is abuzz with the camp cook manning a smallstove and there is even a loo tent up the hill to comply with thepark’s stringent codes of leave no trace. So I’m withoutlayers and a toothbrush – a partial disaster – but Nick offers uphis wool long underwear and another journalist gives me his(unused) toothbrush. Soon a hot dinner comes along followed by killer chocolatebrownies.

Her neighbours at the Mau Summit police station where internal refugees persons are camping said that she was assaulted by police on the eve of the rally after she woke up at night and started screaming. "The two officers who beat her were new at the police station and did not understand her. The officers said her screams were causing tension in the camp as other occupants thought the camp was being raided" a neighbour said. The neighbour however said they were used to her screams and none of the camp’s residents was bothered about her. "We normally reprimand her and ask her to keep quiet which she normally does but the two officers beat her thoroughly as she pleaded for mercy" the neighbour explained. They narrated to the Nation a trail of misfortunes that had befallen her and which they attributed to her apparent worsening state of mental health. They said she was a mother of four but all her three sons died leaving her with a daughter.

When our daughter who is now 17 was 7 years old she wanted to be a Brownie Girl Scout. I thought that sounded reasonable. What I didn’t count on however was being the leader of the troop! Crafts are not my thing I don’t really enjoy camping that much and I was a (shhh!) Brownie dropout! Since our daughter really wanted to join I reluctantly volunteered to be the leader — thankfully I had three very competent assistants! Much to my surprise I had fun! In the process I learned some things about myself developed several new skills (although camping wasn’t one of them) and hopefully helped instill a sense of self-confidence in a group of young ladies.

Alois Lissl the chief of police of Upper Austria province told The Associated Press that although no evidence had surfaced so far police have widened their investigation into the unsolved murder 22 years ago to include the incest suspect. The bound body of 17-year-old Martina Posch was found on a shore of the Upper Austrian lake of Mondsee in 1986.
