“And we’ll hear student presentations on some individual projects they have been working on during the semester. ” Already the course has been a revelation for some of the students including freshmen pals from Conway Kati Baldwin and Kelly Magee. “I’m very much a ‘girly girl’ and haven’t really ever been camping or been an outdoors person” Baldwin says. “This was an opportunity to do something I might never get to do again. And it was a three-hour class and I’m trying to get out of college as soon as I can. “ We learned to use compasses and how to figure meters and degrees and pointing somebody in a certain direction so wherever you start from you can get back there at the end of your hike or whatever. ” Baldwin also learned the importance of having enough food and water for fuel on a trip and that drinking too much water is not good… ” Baldwin’s best friend Magee had heard about the course earlier than most. “My sister was in the seminar that led to the creation of the class” she says. “I had been camping with my family but this will be different. My cell phone won’t last for seven days. I think it was kind of cool that we’ve gotten four insights from having four professors instead of just one. ” For their part the professors hope this “pilot” class will prove popular enough to offer again especially on a campus that takes its very name from its neighboring river. Pitt football Q&A with Paul Zeise
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – Pittsburgh Post Gazette – Apr 21, 2008
So just keep sending questions over the summer and we’ll get started again when the Panthers go camping! Thanks for participating and have a safe summer. Q: Considering his success two years ago I was very excited to get Derek Kinder back in the lineup this year. I haven’t heard any mention of him at all this camp. Is he still injured? What is his status?Bob Hatchel Buffalo NYZEISE: Derek is healing and he’ll be fine come training camp. But he will find a much different lineup to try and break into. I’d expect him to become a starter but it won’t be easy as the receiver position has become loaded. Q: How much do you think Pitt not having their own football facility is hurting their program? They only had a supposed 7500 people where a program such as Penn State had over 73000 fans.

Throughout the school year fifth- grade students from Denver Public Schools visit Balarat to learn about nature ecology history team-building goal-setting and climbing and orienteering. For some students the trip is their first time away from home by themselves. For others it’s their first time at an outdoor camp in the mountains. For everyone it’s an exciting overnight adventure filled with fun and engaging outdoor learning activities. The adventure starts on the bus where students from Kaiser Elementary School and Farrell B. The brawl broke out in the Harrison Bay State Park Saturday night. Syvonia Armstrong says her family spent the day camping up until a man in the park thought one of her sons said something derogatory and before she knew what happened the fight exploded. “The tapes that yall have is only the second part of the fight not the fight that happened on our camp ground so it’s not the whole story” Armstrong says. Armstrong says the whole story started when the man attacked her kids and then hit her when she tried to stop the attack. Her friend Donnee Gurrolla says she jumped in to help and ended up with bruises all over her body and a broken foot. “When he jumped kicked me in the stomach I flew back I fell and I tripped I have abdominal bruises on the inside wall of my stomach I had to go the hospital” Gurrolla says.
