Toronto Star – Mar 26, 2008
THE CANADIAN PRESS Accused of wanting to behead Prime Minister Stephen Harper an alleged terrorist was lured to what prosecutors have called a clandestine training camp on the assumption he was doing some winter camping and was frequently sent on coffee runs to Tim Hortons according to court documents released Wednesday. A factum filed by the man's lawyer suggests evidence billed by the Crown as "shocking and sensational" might actually provide a weak case against many of the 15 suspects facing trial. The lawyer's factum says the beheading allegation against his client is unfounded as he wasn't even present when the alleged threat against Harper was said to have been uttered. "Contrary to what has been so widely disseminated that (my client) wished to storm Parliament take politicians hostage and behead the prime minister it is anticipated (a police informant) will testify to the effect that 'if the Crown has written in the synopsis that (the suspect's) voice said that then they are grievously mistaken. " The arrests of 17 suspects in June 2006 made headlines around the world when it was revealed the group allegedly plotted to carry out several terrorist attacks including a raid on Parliament.

Effective immediately the camping fee for groups of six or less goes from $5 to $10 per day. The per person fee for groups of more than six increases from 50 cents to $2. The increases are expected to raise about $44000 for wildlife management area campground operations. That's less than half of what the agency spends each year to maintain the 10 areas.
