New Melones Lake boosts camping fee

Bureau of Reclamation which runs the lake is proposing to hike the fee for a standard campsite to $18 a night or $2 more than it is now. The fee for walk-in sites would also increase to $14 a night. The bureau wants to raise the fees under a new law that for the first time will allow managers at New Melones to retain part of the fees at local sites so there will be money for improving them. Another change proposed is that the RV dump stations in the recreation area would begin charging $8 per use for registered campers and $15 for others. This service is now free.
