A year full of must-sees
Chicago Sun-Times – Dec 30, 2007
And once you do you won’t want to leave. That’s how I felt about this isolated resort made up of 20 safari-style tents each tricked out with antique furniture oil lamps and a fireplace. It’s quintessential “glamping” or glamor camping a perfect marriage of rugged outdoorsiness and luxurious pampering. We spent the days whitewater kayaking fishing for salmon hiking horseback riding and spying on killer whales bald eagles and black bear. At night we sat down to gourmet five-course dinners and tucked ourselves into 400-thread-count sheets. That’s my kind of camping. Clayoquot’s season runs from May 15-ct… We spent the days whitewater kayaking fishing for salmon hiking horseback riding and spying on killer whales bald eagles and black bear. Introduce someone to the outdoors in ‘08
Enid News & Eagle – Dec 30, 2007
ver the years the number of anglers and hunters has decreased. More families are stuck behind the television set rather than a camping trip and more kids understand less about the outdoors. This year let us make a resolution to introduce one person or reintroduce one person to the outdoors. The trip doesn’t have to be a big-game hunting trip to Canada fishing on the gulf or a camp out in Yellowstone National Park. Make it simple but make it fun. Try a fishing trip to a nearby pond or reservoir… This time of the year the summer residents have moved farther south and some northern residents have moved into our area. ver the next month or two is the best time to view a bald eagle around the lake. Plan an overnight camping trip to one of our state lakes or reservoirs most of which provide primitive camping sites. No need for the motor home. Just take a cot tent and sleeping bag and don’t forget for breakfast nothing tastes better than bacon and eggs on an open fire. Maybe you don’t want to spend the night. How about a hike? Kaw Lake Canton Lake Lake McMurtry Lake Watonga and Salt Plains among others have short trails that can be done in less than a couple of hours.
Duck football fans lasso El Paso

The upside: The desert plants were absolutely beautiful after their first good soak in a year. It takes three days minimum to experience Big Bend an 800000-acre preserve most of it wilderness. Unlike most national parks Big Bend allows wilderness car camping away from designated campgrounds. The park keeps close tabs on unusual sources of light; we attracted two armed border patrol agents. Big Bend has three areas easily accessible by automobile: Boquillas Canyon where the Rio Grande leaves the park; Chisos Mountains the cool high country where the lodge and most visitor facilities are located; and Santa Elena Canyon where the Rio Grande enters the park. After three days in Big Bend we headed back north to the Guadalupe Mountains the 86000-acre national park that is one of the least significant among the nation’s 56 parks. It certainly is a beautiful area but no more so than dozens of similar mountain ranges in the West.

They turned out to be the two most influential figures in my life nurturing a keen interest for the outdoors. Born and raised in Redding I was fortunate to discover this area is absolutely rich with outdoor activities. Whether it was camping with my family hiking skiing with friends or hunting with my dad or grandfather being outside was then and still is today the foundation on which my philosophy of life was built. Fewer things compare to sitting on a hillside watching the sunrise on a golden-leafed aspen thicket shimmering in the breeze. To see such beauty is something many people might never have the opportunity to experience. Because of this desire to share such beauty with others it only seemed natural that a camera might be a means to do exactly that. utdoor filming has provided the opportunity to artistically present our land’s beauty to others.
Surf’s up and so is crime on Baja’s beaches Tourists want…
San Francisco Chronicle – Dec 30, 2007
“It’s just unbelievable how bad it is down there” he said. In another robbery on Sept. 16 three surfers who were camping in the same area where Weber was attacked reported being held up by two armed men. “Until authorities get a handle on the situation we urge anyone planning or considering a trip to Baja to be aware of these recent events be careful and be safe” the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation told members recently. “It could happen to anyone” said Brian Ramirez 37 of Mission Viejo (range County) a surfer who was coming in from the water near Ensenada the other day board in hand. But he said the waves were still worth the risks. Wampler said surfers were targets because they are becoming more prosperous driving luxury vehicles and carrying wads of cash.

Topeka Capital Journal – Dec 30, 2007
Hunting fishing camping and other activities provide memories that will last a lifetime for young and old alike. Spending time with friends and family is enjoyable and sharing outdoor experiences with them is even more rewarding.
